Strengthening Cervical Cancer Prevention in Kajiado North

AFRON supported project through KENCO, strengthened Women4 Cancer’s efforts in advocating for cervical cancer prevention through Whole Site Orientation for healthcare workers and community dialogue sessions.

Achievements:

A total of 77 healthcare workers (56 female and 21 male) from Rongai and Matasia Health Centres were sensitized on key cervical cancer prevention strategies, including:

1. HPV vaccination
2. Cervical cancer screening
3. Addressing immunization hesitancy
4. Countering myths and misinformation

Community Dialogues

Conducted in Rongai and Matasia, reaching 151 community members. Creating safe spaces for community members to ask questions, receive accurate information, and build trust in health services.

Discussions addressed:

1. The importance of HPV vaccination
2. Cervical cancer screening and early detection
3. Myths, misconception, misinformation, and vaccine hesitancy

Supporting communities make informed health decisions and promote preventive healthcare.

Impact in the Communities Reached

1. Improved healthcare uptake through integrated service delivery, allowing communities to access multiple services conveniently.
2. Increased cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination uptake
3. Enhanced capacity of healthcare workers, improving the quality of cervical and breast cancer prevention and care services.
4. Reduced fears and misinformation, strengthening trust in health services.
5. Strengthened partnerships with county health teams, other CBOs in advancing cancer prevention efforts in Kenya.
